Homem was a Portuguese Commander and Governor who lived in the 15th century.
Vasco Fernandes Homem was born in Portugal in the 15th century and travelled into Zimbabwe in 1569 as a field Commander in an expedition led by the Portuguese military commander Barretto Francisco to fight against the Monomutapa.
After Baretto’s passing he took command of the expedition that later failed. In 1557 he was replaced and he returned to Portugal where he lived out the rest of his life.
