Can Miss Zimbabwe reach tomorrow’s final at Miss World?
Miss World Zimbabwe beauty queen Chiedza Mhosva has made the nation proud as she has landed in the top 20 of Beauty with a Purpose category at the Miss World 2017 pageant underway in China. Mhosva made it in top 20 together with other countries such as Australia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Cook Islands, England, Fiji, France, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand and Vietnam. A total of 117 contestants from across the world are participating in the pageant whose grand finale is on tomorrow.
Speaking about Beauty with a Purpose category, the chairperson and chief executive officer of the Miss World Organisation, Julia Morley, said work displayed by these global queens was aspiring and inspiring.
“Beauty with a Purpose, is a project which I started in 1972. It is the heart of Miss World, each country chooses a project close to their home presenting their projects at Miss World. I am so incredibly proud of all the hard work and results achieved by the young women around the world and hope you enjoy reading about their projects,” she said.
The achievement should be a confidence booster for Mhosva ahead of tomorrow’s final where a new queen will be crowned by Miss World 2016 Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico at Sanya City Arena in China. The event, which will see presenters Fernando Allende, Angela Chow, Frankie Cena, Barney Walsh and Steve Douglas hosting the show, will be broadcast on E! and Direct TV.
YouTube kids star sensations 12-year-old Jeffrey Li and nine-year-old Celine Tam will be performing. The duo made headlines in 2015 when they wowed viewers with their stunning rendition of “You Raise Me Up”. Earlier in an interview at the airport, before she left Mhosva said she was well prepared to represent Zimbabwe.
“This is such an overwhelming experience and I am going to give my best. I pray that I will make Zimbabwe proud,” she said. The lanky model thanked Miss World Zimbabwe Trust chairperson Mrs Marry Chiwenga for her support.
“I want to thank Mrs Chiwenga very much. She is just an amazing person, she has such a kind heart and I am here all because of her. I want also to thank Zimbabweans as well as Miss World Zimbabwe Trust for their support,” she said. Besides modelling Mhosva is currently studying acting and would like to be a professional actor and an acting coach. She has a passion for the arts and enjoys listening to Jazz music. Her proudest and most memorable moment is the day she became the leader of the “Be in School” campaign, which became a successful project in promoting education in Zimbabwe. Her personal motto is “Be the change you want to see” and it will inspire her as she goes on the ramp tomorrow.
