Judiciary of Zimbabwe
The legal system is based on Roman-Dutch law and the official language is English.
The Supreme Court of Zimbabwe, is the highest court in the country, it is made up and headed by the Chief Justice (Godfrey Chidyausiku) and other Judges of Appeal. The court has original Jurisdiction in matters of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. In all other matters it has appellate jurisdiction only.
The High Court consists of the Chief Justice, the Judge President, and 11 other Judges. Below the High Court are regional courts and magistrates courts with both jurisdiction to administer both civil and criminal justice and these are presided over by full- time professional magistrates.
Customary law is administered in customary law and local courts, presided over by chiefs and headmen in the rural areas.
