Swallows and Martins are birds with slender streamlined bodies, long pointed wings and a short bill with a wide gape.

General Background:
Their feet are adapted to perching rather than walking, and the front toes are partially joined at the base. There are 75 species worldwide and 19 species which occur in Zimbabwe.
