This event has also attracted elite runners from clubs in Zimbabwe and South Africa and some very impressive times have been posted. Comrades Marathon champions Bruce Fordyce and Stephen Muzhingi have also competed. In 2016 we had the following elite athletes all attending:
Mike Fokoroni – 1st at Two Oceans 2016. 4th at Comrades 2016
Monica Kativhu – 11th at Comrades 2016
Elijah Mabhunu – 1st Westgate half, Gaborone half Previous winner of Kariba. Represented Zim at Regional and International Level.
Kelvin Pangiso – 4th at Pyong yang in Korea in 2016. Represented Zim at the World Champs. Former winner of Kariba 21.
This run is held over the Heroes Weekend in August (Race date Sunday 13th August, 2017) and is the central attraction for locals and visitors to Kariba over this long weekend. Along with all the runners there are a large number of supporters both friends and family who attend to support the runners and enjoy the entertainment for the rest of the day. atience Murowe – Vicfalls winner 2016.
