Four die of cholera in Chegutu

Four people died of suspected cholera in Chegutu between the eighth of this month and yesterday while four other patients are receiving treatment for the disease at Chegutu Hospital.
10 others who presented with cholera symptoms were treated and discharged earlier on.
Mashonaland West medical director Dr Wenceslas Nyamayaro said all those infected were mourners who attended the funeral wake of an elderly woman who had her body prepared for burial as part of the Muslim religious practice.
All the four people who died were directly involved in the preparation of the body of the deceased woman in Chegutu’s Pfupajena high density suburb.
Dr Nyamayaro expressed the fear that more people could have been affected and as such medical teams are on high alert.
Meanwhile, Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa who rushed to Chegutu warned people to be on high alert saying surveillance teams have been activated across the country.
