Zanu PF Compiles Detailed Report on Factionalism Gripping Ruling Party

Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu PF says it is compiling a detailed report on the state of the party, currently ravaged by factionalism, which will soon be handed over to President Robert Mugabe for him to take action on officials fighting over the succession of the 93-year-old leader.

Party spokesman, Simon Khaya Moyo, told Studio 7’s Blessing Zulu that the president is expected to make his own decision over the contents of the report.

“President Robert Mugabe is the one who deployed our team to Mashonaland Central province to investigate fully circumstances that caused the province to pass a vote of no confidence in Kasukuwere.”

He added, “We are now compiling the report and we will hand it over to the president. It is up to him to take it to the Politburo or not.”

The probe team is led by Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda.

Some Zanu PF members are currently attempting to eject party political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, for allegedly being corrupt and attempting to unseat President Mugabe.

Kasukuwere has dismissed these allegations as unfounded. A faction of the party calling itself Team Lacoste said to be led by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is allegedly behind moves to force Kasukuwere to leave the party.

The other faction is said to be a front for President Mugabe’s wife, Grace, who allegedly wants to succeed her husband.

Both Mrs. Mugabe and Mnangagwa say they don’t have any presidential ambitions.
