Black and White – The Colours of Emotion. Here is Why I LOVE Them.

Black and white photography is the most timeless trend in photography today – for good reason. Have you ever looked at black and white photographs from a wedding and noticed how the first thing your eyes notice are the people, their actions and the expressions on their faces? That is one of the many things of black and white photographs and they are many.
It could be the science; apparently, most of a person’s memories are recorded in black and white. It could be the shades of grey which in unison, matte the photo up into one picture. Maybe.
For me, it’s the emotion.
I always love flipping through the family photo album and the pictures that always catch my attention the most are those monochrome photos of my dad in an afro or my siblings standing behind the family tricycle while mum stood behind, watching them. The memories mean the same in color, but I don’t even have to search for the emotion when the photo is in black and white. I just look at the photo and everything is there. The connection is almost instant.
That’s the beauty of black and white wedding photos.
It could be the moment the groom is getting ready to leave the church, the time the bride is saying her vows or the very first kiss – the effect is almost always the same. The emotion is in plain sight and the photograph speaks well over a thousand words. It’s that passion, that natural connection and that beauty of a perfectly toned picture that makes black and white that much special in my eyes.
At the height of my photography experience, I want to shoot an entire wedding in black and white. It remains a dream – one I am very passionate about. Too bad I cannot shoot my own wedding (which would be the second)…I would live the dream this year.
