Breaking: CID Seize Computers Belonging To Magamba TV, Organisation Martha O’Donovan Works For
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today made their way to Magamba offices at Moto Replubik armed with a warrant to confiscate desktops and laptops. This has been confirmed by Magamba Network Trust.
The warrant they were wielding was granted in connection with the Martha O’Donovan case.
If you recall, Martha O’Donovan is an American citizen who worked/works as a Projects Manager at local activist organisation, Magamba Network Trust. She was arrested earlier this month on charges of:
- Subverting a constitutional government through Masterminding a social media campaign to overthrow the government by unconstitutional means, with the campaign allegedly being run under the social media accounts; @Matigary, @OpenparlyZW and Magamba Network Trust.
- Undermining the authority of and insulting the authority of the president by tweeting as @Matigary a tweet that read “We’re being led by a selfish and sick man”.
If found guilty she faces up to 20 years in prison, that’s the seriousness of the charges.
She was arrested and spent 7 days at Chikurubi Maximum Prison before she was granted bail by the High Court.
As the state gathers evidence against her the warrant to confiscate Magamba Network Trust’s laptops and desktops was given.
This case comes at a time when the government recently instated a Ministry of Cyber Crimes, Threat Detection and Mitigation to clamp down on social media abuse. Martha just happens to be the first victim.
