Pressure continues to mount on Robert Mugabe to resign as president. Impeachment proceedings against Mugabe are expected to start today. The governing ZANU-PF party says all 230 of its MP’s will support an impeachment motion, meaning they only need the support of five opposition members for the required two-thirds majority. Zimbabwe’s axed vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa and former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda – both old liberation colleagues of Mugabe – are said to be planning meetings with him in efforts to persuade him to go.
