Avocets and stilts belong to a family of wading large birds called Recurvirostridae.

General Backgound:
The Recurvirostridae are a family of birds in the wader suborder Charadrii. It contains two distinct groups of birds, the avocets (one genus) and the stilts (two genera).
The avocets have long legs and long up-curved bills. The stilts have extremely long legs and long, thin, straight bills.
There are 9 species worldwide and 2 species which occur in Zimbabwe.
