Geoffrey Bond
Geologist
Geoffrey Bond served with the Royal Air Force during World War Two and after the war in 1946 he returned to Rhodesia to take up appointment as the Keeper of Geology at the National History Museum in Bulawayo.
He later became the first Professor and Head of the Department of Geology at the newly established department at the University of Rhodesia. He was the Vice-Principal of the University between 1977 and 1982. Bond was also a palaentologist and broadcaster, he published numerous papers and was the author of the first overall account of the palaentology of Zimbabwe. Weekly he broadcaster various science programmes. He was a longtime dedicated servant of the National Resources Board and Board of Trustees of National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe.
A distinguished scholar and administrator an annual geology award in his memory is awarded at the University of Zimbabwe to a geology honours student who presents the best project.
He died at his home on 19 June 1983.
