Lupane State University
The university was established through an act of the Zimbabwe parliament in 2004 and opened its doors to 14 pioneer students in the faculty of Agricultural Sciences in August 2005.
The vision of our University is to be an international premier university in research based knowledge, teaching and learning.
Our mission is to contribute positively to research-based knowledge for the development of communities in keeping with our motto which is Building Communities through Knowledge
LSU was established by an Act of Parliament (Chapter 25:25) of 2004 and started its operations in August 2005 with a pioneer group of 14 students enrolled to pursue a General Degree in Agricultural Sciences.
Today the University has three faculties and above three thousand students cared for by a workforce of about three hundred employees and poised to grow to even greater heights. The University has had seven successful graduation ceremonies and has graduated thousands of students including diploma holders.
Although the University has its current operations based in Bulawayo, its designated site is in Lupane District in Matabeleland North Province where construction of the campus has been going on since 2006 and it is hoped that relocation to the site will start in 2016.
As a university we are committed to producing graduates who are not only well-educated, but also mindful of the responsibilities of democratic citizenship. This is important as higher education in general has a duty to develop an educated and thoughtful citizenry, which is a critical element of a successful democracy and an anchor of development.
