The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development is a government ministry responsible for the growth and development of small and medium enterprises in Zimbabwe.
Functions:
- Formulate and implement policies for SMEs and Cooperative Development;
- Develop legal and regulatory frameworks for MSMEs and Cooperative Development;
- Promote, coordinate and monitor innovative financing schemes for MSMEs and Cooperative Development;
- Provide, coordinate and facilitate skills, entrepreneurship and management training that support the growth of SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Promote the formation and development of clusters, business linkages and associations for SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Provide business consultancy services to SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Coordinate the provision of infrastructural facilities for SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Conduct research into local and global trends to identify business opportunities for SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Develop, maintain and update a database of SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Administer the SMEs and Cooperatives Development Funds;
- Liaise with and coordinate sector Ministries involved in the promotion of SMEs and Cooperatives;
- Provide techno-preneurial training, e-designing, high tech manufacturing services to MSMEs and Cooperatives; and
- Administer the Cooperative Act (Chapter 24:05) and SMEDCO Act (Chapter 24:12).
