Small Enterprises Development Corporation (SEDCO)
SEDCO is a leading development finance institution for the promotion and development of micro, small and medium enterprises in the country.
The Small Enterprises Development Corporation (SEDCO) was formed in 1983 through an Act of Parliament, chapter 24:12 and is a parastatal which falls under the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Co-operative Development.

SEDCO’s Mandate:
- Part 111 of section 18 of the SEDCO Act (link to sedco act), Chapter 24:12, provides that the functions of the Corporation shall be-:
- To encourage and assist in the establishment of co-operatives and small commercial or industrial enterprises.
- To provide assistance, whether in the form of financial assistance, management counselling and training, information, advice or otherwise, to co-operatives and small commercial or industrial enterprises.
- To advise the Minister on all matters connected with co-operatives and small commercial or industrial enterprises.
- To do all things which by this Act or any other enactment are required or permitted to be done by the Corporation
SEDCO’s model of SME Development:
- Ensuring SME access appropriate financial products from SEDCO
- Providing decent workspace by providing factory shells, office space, artisan hives and vendor marts.
- Providing capacity building products such as training and mentoring according to SME capacity gaps
- Pursuing partnerships that benefit SME
- Creating linkages and value chain integration for SMEs
