All about Ex Q
Ex Q who was born Enock Munhenga is a Zimbabwean urban grooves singer whose career has stood the test of time in Zimbabwe’s difficult music industry. Ex Q shot to fame in 2000 during the urban grooves era, when he released his hit track Musalala that took the country by storm. He has continued to reinvent himself and is as relevant now as he was in 2000.
Career
After the release of his hit single ‘Musalala,’ Ex Q became a household name in Zimbabwe. It was during the urban grooves era when the Minister of Information at this time, Jonathan Moyo exercised 75% local content to production to promote local artists. This helped Ex Qs rise as he was able to get a lot of airplay on the radio and television.
He went on to release the single ‘Pandakakuona’ which feat Shane and Nathan. In 2005 he released his first album. This feat tracks like Maazirudo and Ndichakutevera among others.
In 2015, Ex Q released two singles titled, ‘The way’ featuring Roki and ‘Pore Pore’ again with Roki and Nesto. In these singles, he introduced a new sound which was a combination of Afro Pop and Old school hip-hop.
Endorsements
Ex Q got his first endorsement in 2017 when he was appointed as the new brand ambassador for the local mobile phone company, Astro Mobile on a one year contract. Due to Ex Q’s influence on the music industry, the company was able to attract a much wider audience for their mobile phones.
According to Techzim (2017), the hip-hop star signed another content deal with South African mobile network operator MTN whereby the Zimbabwean star shares a handful of his hit songs as caller ringtones. Ex Qs team pushed the deal in order to increase the reach of his music across the border. This was done especially to build the success of Ex Qs latest hit Bhachura featuring Ammara Brown which has played on Trace TV Africa, another regional platform.
Divorce
Ex Q divorced his wife in 2003. According to New Zimbabwe, Ex Q left his wife and two kids and moved in with a sugar mummy in the plush suburb of Mt Pleasant. He claimed his ex-wife, Irene Office, was a stumbling block to the development of his music career. According to another source who spoke to Zimbabwe Mail, Ex Q went on to go for a romantic getaway with his lover to Nyanga where they booked into Troutbeck Inn Hotel. Ex Q denied the claims that he left his wife for an older rich woman.
Personal Life
Ex Q divorced his wife in around 2003 and is now a single dad of two beautiful children, Trey and Tiara. He claims to have always kept work and play separately. His personal life does not often affect his work.
Witchcraft Scandal
In 2017, Ex Q was accused by a fellow Zimbabwean Artist’s ex-wife, Olinda Chapel, for practicing witchcraft. According to I Harare, Olinda claimed that her former husband, Stunner, had told her that he is not progressing as he should in his career because Ex Q and Jah Prayzah had visited a witch doctor to cure him. The controversial businesswoman made these claims via a video that went viral on social media s most her ranting videos do.
The star released as a song to counter those claims expressing his indifference towards people who spread lies about him as his main focus was making music for his fans. The song features Killer T and was produced by DJ Tamuka.
