Mining in Zimbabwe
The mining sector has always followed behind farming as the second largest export earner.
The sector plays an important role as an earner of foreign currency for the nation and as a raw material supplier to industry.
Traditionally the Zimbabwean agricultural sector has played the major and number one role of export income earner. The mining sector has always followed behind as the second largest export earner. Almost all mineral production in Zimbabwe is exported except in some cases where some minerals like gold are processed into bullion which goes towards the building of national reserves. Lately in the country there has emerged a huge call of finding ways of adding value to the countries raw materials; by processing them into finished or semi-finished goods prior to exporting.
