Mutare Tales – Telling our own story
Musangano Lodge proudly presents its new artistic project, which aims to support rising artists from Mutare through workshops and performance space. The platform offers developmental exchange programmes that target aspiring musicians, poets, comedians, dancers, videographers, choreographers, fashion designers, actors and other artists – giving them the mentorship and opportunity to showcase and develop their talents.
Mutare tales takes place every 6 o 8 weeks, with the highlight of the final show of approximately an hour and a half. artists are given a chance to perform their art in front of a live audience, with an MC steering the event. To qualify for Mutare tales, the artists first participate in an audition process which is mentored by well-seasoned artists such as Prayer soul, one of the leading Neo Soul Musicians of Zimbabwe, and the critically acclaimed theatre director, Zaza Muchemwa. This is followed by workshops in which the chosen participants learn about crucial aspects of their art.
Musangano Lodge is an important player in the project, as it is striving to be the local hub for talent in the Mutare area. The lodges management team supports the gifted by providing them with a forum for developing their skills, which will hopefully lead to productive craftsmanship and generate income.
Mutare tales was created with the specific focus of Mutare community to the talent around them and to the facilities of Musangano Lodge. The next performance is scheduled for Saturday 14 October 2017 within the programme of Octoberfest at Musangano Lodge.
The weekend shows also give lodge guests the opportunity to see local artists live on stage. Musangano, nestling on the lower slopes of a tree-lined hillside, offers splendid catered and self-catering accommodation, which blends in with the surrounding miombo mountain woodland. The picturesque Cuckoo Campground is ideal for bush and nature lovers and the intimate PAMuchakata Restaurant has acquired a notable reputation for serving delicious , freshly prepared food.
The programmes have been supported through local sponsorship and are very happy to announce that Diamond Fm, Brands Fresh and Molu’s Butchery have offered their unique support from day one.
While they are very grateful for this, they are still open for more partners. It would be exciting for them to expand their training and workshop offerings. This would further provide the local talented individuals with the support they need to grow into artists, who will be recognised beyond their immediate community as well as turning their craft into sustainable income generating business.
