What is the Harare International Carnival
Harare international carnival is an annual event that encompasses a series of events and festivities and is aimed at advancing the arts, culture and heritage of Zimbabwe.
Citizens as well as foreigners from all over the world march down the streets of Harare partying.
The event, according to Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, is aimed at celebrating diversity, getting communities together, getting to know another in the love and harmony that bulds Zimbabwe into a peaceful and promising place for everyone.
The carnival has attracted countries such as Brazil, India, Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, the United Kingdom and Zambia to participate in the carnival.
In 2017, the commemorations are expected to foster a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior towards a more sustainable approach that can contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in Zimbabwe. It is set to achieve high “Gross National Happiness” for the Zimbabwean people by 2020.
The carnival itself is fast becoming the glue binding Zimbabweans together as a family in celebration of our culture and achievements as a nation. It is hoped that it will soon become a viable economic enterprise for the nation (as indicated in the impact assessment for the 2014 edition attached to this document) through employment and wealth creation, foreign revenue generation, industry expansion, infrastructure advancement and social goodwill.
