Nathan Shamuyarira
Nathan Shamuyarira was a Zimbabwean politician and national hero.
Shamuyarira was born on the 29th of September 1929 in Mashonaland West Province.

Career:
He started off as a teacher, with teaching jobs at Waddilove Mission various other schools, while completing his secondary education by correspondence. He then proceeded to Tegwani Secondary School in Plumtree. Between 1950 and 1953 he taught Animal Husbandry in Domboshava.
Nathan Shamuyarira became a reporter with the African Newspapers Ltd and was later elevated to Editor( becoming the first editor) of the African Daily News (1953-1956). From 1959 until 1962 he was Editor-in-Chief of African Newspapers Ltd he later resigned and proceeded to lecturer in Adult Education at the University College of Rhodesia and Nyasaland in Salisbury (1963).
From 1967 he lectured Political Science at the University of Dar-es-Salaam.
Political Career:
- Joined ZAPU in 1962 and became one of the few academics during the party’s early years
- Joined ZANU at its formation (1963)
- Secretary for External Affairs, ZANU (1968-71)
- Resigned from his lecturer post to join and become Treasurer of FROLIZI at its formation in 1971 and to later return to his job in Dar-es-Salaam in 1973
- Returned and recommited to his work as Secretary for External Affairs of ZANU in 1973
- Shamuyarira was appointed to be the Minister of Information, Posts and Telecommunications from 1980-1987
- Minister of Foreign Affairs (1987-1995)
- Secretary for Information and Publicity
He died on 4 June 2014 and was declared a National Hero and buried at the National Hero’s Acre.
