UN hails Zim’s commitment to achieving objectives of the eighth SDG

The United Nations (UN) has commended the government for prioritising goal number eight of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the formulation of key macro-economic policies.

The SDG number eight on decent work and economic growth is being considered by the UN as an important element in uplifting industry and commerce.

The UN Communications Specialist in Zimbabwe, Mr Sirak Gebrehiwot told the ZBC News that the introduction of the 10 Point Plan, five percent export incentive schemes, Command Agriculture Programme, Statutory Instrument 64 of 2016, among others, are key indicators of the government’s commitment to achieving objectives of the eighth SDG.

“We are really happy with the progress so far and we anticipate for the better,” he said.

The SDG number eight mainly seeks to ensure that countries focus on policies that enhance economic growth while creating opportunities for employment creation to increase production.

It also focuses on ensuring that economies are achieving a 7 percent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate per year, as well as ensuring that they are diversifying their production base, upgrading technologies as well introducing  innovation.
