Bishop Abel Tendekayi Muzorewa was a Zimbabwean clergyman, politician and Prime Minister of the shortlived Zimbabwe Rhodesia.
Abel Muzorewa born on April 14 1925 in Mutare, Manicaland Province.
Education:
He attended local schools Mutare Secondary School and Nyadiri United Methodist College for secondary school and early education and training to the clergy. He left the country for the United States of America to receive further church training at the United Methodist College, Fayette, USA, the School of Religion, Mossouri, USA and Scaritt College, Tennesse, USA.
Career:
- Muzorewa started off in the highest profession at the time as a teacher in Murehwa (1943-47)
- Preacher Mutoko area (1947-49)
- Ordained Methodist Priest (1953)
- Pastor Chiduku North Circuit (1955-58) and Mutare Mission (1963-64)
- Director of Youth Work, Rhodesia Annual Conference (1965)
- Joint Director Youth Work, Rhodesia Christian Council (1965)
- Consecrated Bishop of Methodist Church (1968)
- Resident Bishop of United Methodist Church (1968-70)
- Elected Leader of of (African National Council) 1971
- Member of the Interim Executive Council (1978-79)
- Prime Minister of the short-lived Zimbabwe Rhodesia
He died on 8 April 2010.
