Early Portuguese Explorer and One of the First Europeans to Explore Zimbabwe
Antonio Fernandez arrived in modern day Mozambique from Portugal 1505. Between 1511 and 1515 he made long journeys inland in order to explore and gather information on the lands he traveled. He became one of the early European explorer’s to travel on the land that is now Zimbabwe.
During his journeys he recorded some of the first available information on the goldfields in Zimbabwe and encouraged the trade of gold.
During his journey’s he would visit the King of the land that time (Monomutapa) seeking permission for his journeys and looking for trade opportunities.
