Prudence Katomeni
Prudence Katomeni Mbofana is a renowned Zimbabwean Jazz Musician and actress who rose to prominence with the hits such as a BP and Ruva Rangu. She has toured extensively in the UK, Germany and Norway among other countries.
Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, or Prue as she is affectionately known by her fans, is also known for her brilliant acting skills which the first showcased in 1993 in the classic movie- More Time. This was a Zimbabwean Production which focused on HIV and AIDS and social among the youths which went on to win many awards. She was just 14 at the time.
Early Life
Born in 1977, the ‘queen of Jazz in Zimbabwe’ as some call her, attended Avondale Primary School where her teacher identified her musical talent at a very early age. She went to attend Girls High School in Harare and Zimbabwe College of Music (2009) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Jazz Music.
Throughout her schooling years, Prudence grew her passion for music and was an active member of school choirs. After completed her A ‘levels , she went on to become the lead singer of the band ‘The Vice’ and was with the band for 10years before she moved onto Jazz Invitation.
Career
When she was only in form 4, she lent her voice to Albert Nyathi on his hit song ‘Senzeni Na,’ which the country fell in love with due to the emotional lyrics and sensational backing vocals which were done by Prue.
After completing her A ‘levels, she went on to become the lead singer of the band ‘The Vice’ and was with the band for 10years before she moved onto Jazz Invitation. It was with her first band that she released the hit songs BP and Ruva Rangu. BP was accompanied by a music video which got considerable air play on ZBC for years after.
She launched her solo career in 2011 with the release of her album Prudence in 2011.
Now she is married to the radio personality, Comfort Mbofana who works for Star Fm. Now a housewife and mother, Prudence is no longer as active in the entertainment scene but she still manages to find time to create and record music as it is her passion.

She also donates her time and goods to two children’s homes as well as to Mashambanzou Care Trust a non-profit organisation that cares for those infected and affected by HIV and Aids. She is also a part-time employee at Gutu Cakes, a small business that makes delicious themed cakes for any occasion in the UK.
