First Archbishop Of Salisbury and Chishawasha Seminary Founder
Aston Ignatius Chichester joined the Jesuits in 1913 and became a school teacher at Jesuit schools in England. In 1929 he travelled to Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and was consecrated bishop in 1931 and became the first Vicar Apostolic of Salisbury. In 1955 he became the first Archbishop of Salisbury, but resigned in 1956.
He died after collapsing on the steps of St Petasilica on the 24th October 1962 in Rome, whilst taking part in the second Vatican Council. The Chishawasha Seminary, the first order of African sisters was founded by Father Chichester.
