Richard Nicklin Hall was born in Dudley, United Kingdom 1853. He arrived in Rhodesia in 1897 as a journalist representing several British newspapers.
He was assigned by Cecil Rhodes to explore the Great Zimbabwe ruins in 1902 and became the first curator of Ancient Monuments.
Following his endeavor he authored “Great Zimbabwe, Mashonaland, Rhodesia: An Account of Two Years’ Examination Work in 1902-4 on Behalf of the Government of Rhodesia”
He died in Zimbabwe in 1914
