DJ Naida
DJ Naida who was born Colleen Danai Goredema is a female Rapper / Singer / Record Producer and DJ from Harare Zimbabwe.
Early Life
Naida did her High schooling at Westridge High and Lomagundi High School. She went on to study BCom degree in Financial Planning from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa. After graduation, she worked as a Financial Planner at Standard Bank Group which one of the Top Banks in South Africa. She started her career in the music industry as a DJ in 2011.
Career
DJ Naida began Djing in 2009 and has since played extensively in South Africa and Zimbabwe. She learnt to deejay in South Africa. She had a friend show her the ropes there and when she came back to Zimbabwe, her DJ friend -DJ trikx- helped her out. Her first mixtape was called H.O.M.E which came out in 2011. She once performed on the HIFA Stage with internationally acclaimed Noisette1s. She came out second overall in the Lion Larger DJ Battle. She has featured on a Global Women in Hip Hop Mixtape which also got her a feature in the U.K Mail and Guardian. She remains one of Zimbabwe’s most successful Club & Events female DJ to date.
Naida released her first official single in 2012 and since then she has released a few more singles with her latest song, “Jaiva” that is currently heating up dance floors and blazing the airwaves.
DJ Naida has been played on BBC radio and was also featured on a BBC show called ‘The conversation’ which focuses on women who are excelling in different fields and countries.
Being the first female Zimbabwean Hip-hop artist to be featured in South Africa’s Hype Magazine and also the first to have interviews and features on platforms such as Big Brother, Africa Magic and Zambezi Magic, Naida continues to pave the path and continues to push and encourage young women to venture into fields that are male-dominated. #ZiSummer
