Governor of Southern Rhodesia (1942-1944)
Evelyn Baring was born in London on the 29th September 1903 and received his education in Winchester and later at Oxford University in the United Kingdom. In 1926 he joined the India civil service, however owing to ill health he was invalided out of India in 1934 and went into business in England
In 1935 he married the grand-daughter of Lord Grey and Lord Selborne. Unable to do military service because of ill health in the Second World War, he served in the foreign office in England.
He was appointed Governor of Southern Rhodesia in 1942 and from 1944 to 1951 he served as the British High Commissioner to South Africa, then governor of Kenya until 1959.
In 1960 he was Chairman of the Commonwealth Development Corporation.
He died 10th March 1973 in England
