James Chimombe

Musician and Musical Icon

James Chimombe is one Zimbabwe’s musiical greats, he was a vocalist and a guitarist. His musical break came when he joined Thomas Mapfumo’s Acid Band as a rhythm guitarist. When Mapfumo formed the Blacks Unlimited, Chimombe joined the band and played with them for a little while. When the Congolese band the OK Success set up and established base in Zimbabwe he moved and joined them. 

During his stint with OK Success he was the lead vocalist and they recorded a string of successful albums during the 1980s. He left the group to pursue a solo career, which lasted up until he died in 1990.

Chimombe also perfomed with the Huchi Band and Ocean City Band.
