Mai Charamba
Olivia better known as Mai Charamba in music circles is a famous Gospel artist who is known for making a number 1 hits
with her husband Chalse Charamba since the 90s
Early Life
Olivia Charamba was born on the 14th of August, 1973. She started singing in the Salvation Ary choir in the 80’s. In 1995, she moved to join the Apostolic Faith Mission and that is where she met her husband and started her professional career.
Career
After they got married in 1997, Olivia began her music career as the backing vocalist in the Fishers of Men Band led by her husband. She began solo projects in 2000 with the album Amen that was followed by Daily Bread and the Gospel.
She rose to prominence with the songs composed by her husband and featuring friends Tariro Muringa and Spiwe Chimuti as backing vocalists. After hit songs, including Machira Chete, Buruka and Nyika Zimbabwe, also came the commercial aspect of their success story as the couple did not only enjoy the spiritual, but the material fruits of their labour.
Although she was a solo artist, her collaboration were also classical mega hits which raised them to power couple status. However despite their many duos, it has always been made clear that they are not a group.
In 2004, she began a career as a pastor after she graduated at Living Waters Bible College.
When she’s not recording she does counselling and offers consultancy to upcoming musicians. She also enjoys doing a bit of tailoring, gardening and a bit of farming among other activities.
Currently
Mai Charamba is still Charamba is still married to Charles Charamba with 3 daughters names Eternity, Shalom and Tagamuchira and 2 sons- Timukudze and Aveneni. She last released an album 8 years ago but has recently came back to the music scene with the album, Voice of Miriam.
