Poet and Teacher
Noel Brettel was born in 1908 in England, United Kingdom. He received the PEN award twice and is greatly regarded to have been one of the leading poets of the Rhodesian colonial period, after Arthur Shearly Cripps.
He arrived in Rhodesia from England in 1930 and was also a teacher and headmaster at various schools across Zimbabwe. His works include Bronze Frize which he published in 1950 and Season and Pretext 1977. He later wrote and published an autobiography Slide Gate Stile in 1981.
He died in 1991
