Stunner
Desmond Chideme, popularly known as ‘Stunner,’ is one of Zimbabwe’s most successful rapper who was one of the architects of urban music revolution is Zimbabwe.
Early life
Born 11 May 1980 in Gweru, Stunner grew up in Glenora, Harare where he also attended Prince Edward. Although he was one of the quiet guys behind everything he loved dancing and hung around guys that used to sing and occasionally he would sing with them.
Career
Although he was a qualified auto mechanic and did cutting and designing for clothes part time, Stunner decided to leave all that and follow his dream of being a musician. He broke into the music industry in early 2000s and had his first gig was in Mutare which was headlined by Sanii Makhalima. He had gate crashed the show as a backup singer of one of the guys and ended up stealing the show.
Writing all his music, Stunner has released 5 albums, namely Hameno, Ka-life, then Team Hombe and Number one. Although he is considered as an urban grooves artist he has grown with the times and his music has developed a hip hop feel to it over the years.
Personal life
Stunner was traditionally married to Olinda Chapel and has a daughter from a previous relationship called Celeste.
Domestic scandal – In January 2016, Stunner’s wife Olinda Chideme posted a video on social media complaining about Stunner’s cheating and expressing how sad and depressed she was. She revealed that she was the one financing his flamboyant lifestyle. Although there was a public apology the next day for her actions, many more videos followed after that of their troubled marriage. Needless to say their drama was splashed all over the news for months which tainted both their names. His music career also took a dip during that time and several endorsement deals were cancelled. In Stunner’s case it was made worse by the fact he had made headlines before with his promiscuity when a sex tape of him and his then girlfriend, Pokello, was leaked.
