In May 2010 a twitter security glitch left celebrities and members of the public mourning the temporary loss of their fans, among those who lost accounts were reality TV star Kim Kardashian, U.S. singer Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher who was one of the first users to amass a million followers on the social micro-blogging site.
Although the glitch with the site was rectified within a few hours and users were reinstated, one wonders if the same will happen with the popular Bulawayo twitter account CurateByo, which was last week hacked by anon assailants and blocked its administrators from accessing the account which left them with no option but open an alternative account which is currently in use.
Speaking to Urban Culxure news founder of CurateByo Valentine Tusai had this to say “CurateByo is for the people of Bulawayo its all for the love and the growth of the city of kings. People will sill find elements to hate on, surprisingly! But we soldier on. We won’t let a few bad apples spoil the rest
The @CurateByo was started in May 2015 and has had 150 curators who have been at the helm of the account, among them global citizen and Thatha Wena host Gilmore Tee, Socialite Patience Phiri, and playwright Raisedon Baya among other local celebrities. In its existence the account had managed to amass over 6000 followers.
Asked if they had any suspects, the talented poet said they had but the main focus for now was on bringing the old account to life.
CurateByo is a twitter-based online platform that allows Bulawayo natives anywhere in the world to tweet their Bulawayo experience.
A curator is chosen every week by the Admin and then tweets their life story and any subjects that they are familiar with, and keeps followers engaged.
