Thomas Beattie was an Anglican vicar. He arrived in Rhodesia in 1910 from London. He worked in Bulawayo and while there he founded the 1st scout troop only 2 years after Baden–Powell formed the first troops in England .
In 1930 he left Rhodesia and died in Pietermaritzburg in 1960.
